The City

Lima is the capital and the largest city of Peru. It is located in the central coastal part of the country, in a valley on a prevalent desert coast overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Together with the seaport of Callao, it forms a contiguous urban area known as the Lima Metropolitan Area. With a population approaching 9 million, Lima is the most populous metropolitan area of Peru, and the sixth largest city by population in the Americas.

As the major point of entry to the country, Lima has developed a tourism industry, characterized by its historic center, archeological sites, nightlife, museums, art galleries, festivals, and traditions. Lima is home to restaurants and bars where local and international cuisine is served. Lima is known as the Gastronomical Capital of the Americas.

Lima's climate is mild, despite being located in the tropics and in a desert. Lima's proximity to the cool waters of the Pacific Ocean leads to temperatures much cooler than those expected for a subtropical desert. It is neither cold nor very hot. Temperatures rarely fall below 12 °C (54 °F) or rise above 29 °C (84 °F) throughout the entire year.

The month of November is characterized by gradually rising daily high temperatures, with daily highs around 22°C throughout the month. Daily low temperatures are around 17°C. In a typical November day the sky is clear or mostly clear 20% of the time, partly cloudy 31% of the time, and mostly cloudy or overcast 46% of the time. Throughout November, the most common forms of precipitation, if any, are drizzle and light rain.
